Counselling with Rebecca

Coming into a counselling space is a brave decision but one that will benefit you for life. You may be considering counselling because you are at a point where you don’t want to continue in the way that you are living right now.

You are ready for something to change but not quite sure how to get there.

Within counselling this is something that we explore together. To untangle what binds you and help you on the path to freedom.

I offer counselling outdoors in nature, indoors and online. There are benefits to each one and you can decide which offering fits you best.

Supporting you to better mental health

As an integrative counsellor, I hold a safe and empathic space for you to explore the issues that you are experiencing. My work takes place indoors, outdoors and online but wherever we work, I'm not here to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. I understand that it's not easy to look at those difficult things in life sometimes.

We can for years try to ignore those hard emotions, avoid looking at the things that have happened to us and our loved ones. When you are ready to, I’m here to help you look at them, providing a supportive framework in which we can gently explore and help you move forward.

People come to counselling for different reasons but maybe you are -

  • experiencing anxious thoughts or behaviours

  • struggling to control your anger

  • feeling isolated and as though no one really knows what’s going on inside

  • struggling to process the events that have happened to you

  • struggling in your relationships or still feeling the impact of past relationships

  • experiencing the impact of trauma

  • suffering from burnout

  • struggling with low mood or depression

  • feel emotionally drained

  • you've always been the strong one and it's hard to say you are struggling

Together we look at this, and I support you to look deeper at what you are experiencing. Understanding what is causing the behaviours or physical symptoms that are occurring. Unpicking those thoughts or actions that may be distressing you. I don’t judge, or diagnose, but walk along the path with you to help you feel more in control again of your own story.

As an integrative counsellor I draw on different disciplines to help us do our work together. Using counselling theories and practices to understand what you are experiencing and help you move forward.

I use a lot of creativity and nature based practices in my work as these can be helpful mediums to explore those more difficult things you feel. Everything is an invitation however. I would never tell you what you should or shouldn’t do, but offer different methods you may like to try.

Taking the first step...

If you’d like to start counselling sessions with me I offer a free 20 minute

phone call. This can be helpful to make sure that I can provide what you are looking

for and support you in the best way.

I offer counselling sessions outdoors in Cambridge City and Huntingdonshire and when we

talk on the phone we can explore which location is best for you.

For indoor sessions, I have a counselling space in Houghton, Cambridgeshire.

Counselling sessions are £50 for 50 minutes and can be at any frequency that you choose.

If you would like to work with me or have an initial chat please email me at rebeccafensomecounselling@gmail.com or click below.

Why Counselling Outdoors?

Counselling often takes place indoors but there can be a huge benefit to taking our work out into nature. This type of counselling is often known as 'ecotherapy' and at its base form, there is an understanding that the natural world supports therapeutic work in many ways. This can be because -

  • When outdoors, we often feel calmer and more relaxed.

  • The natural world can help us to process our emotions and experiences with more ease.

  • Counselling outdoors we often walk or sit side by side. Maintaining eye contact can be difficult for some but outdoors, we connect in other ways that are not as intense as sustained eye contact.

  • We can see ourselves reflected in nature. Through the mirror the natural world holds up to us, we can understand ourselves better.

  • We often reach deeper levels within ourselves much quicker in the outdoors, meaning that we feel better in a shorter space of time.

  • We spend so much time indoors that getting outdoors helps us return to something deep within us.

Some common questions and answers...

Counselling doesn't have to take place within four walls and when we take the step outside we can see many benefits.

There are things to consider however and you may still prefer to meet indoors or online. As your counsellor, it's not for me to tell you what you should and shouldn't do! And this relates to where our work takes place too.

If you want to know more about working outdoors however or have some questions, read below for some of the most commonly asked questions about this style of work. If you want to talk more, book a free 20 minute phone call with me and we can figure out together what is right for you.

What is ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy is counselling that takes place outdoors, in natural settings. It combines the support of professional therapy with the restorative benefits of being in nature. Whether we’re walking or sitting together, the natural environment helps to create a calm, grounding space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings.

Do I have to walk during the session?

No. Every session is shaped around your needs and comfort. Some people like to walk as they talk, others prefer to sit under a tree or by a stream. It’s entirely up to you, and we’ll always check in about what feels right on the day.

What if the weather is bad?

We work with the weather as much as possible. Some people find gentle rain or crisp cold days therapeutic. However, if there is a severe weather warning and it is unsafe, we can reschedule, move to a more sheltered location, or switch to an online session. We’ll discuss your preferences in advance.

Is it confidential if we’re in a public space?

Yes. Confidentiality is always a priority. I choose quiet, discreet locations where we’re unlikely to be overheard. If we do pass others, we can pause the conversation until it feels private again. You can always tell me what you’re comfortable with.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for walking and the weather. You might want to bring a waterproof layer and a drink but this is up to you. I'll be checking your comfort throughout the session and I always carry hand warmers with me (as I don't like the cold!)

Do I need to be outdoorsy or physically fit?

Not at all. Ecotherapy is for anyone—no hiking boots required. Sessions are gentle and tailored to your needs. If you have specific access needs then let me know and we can ensure the space is right for you.

How is ecotherapy different from traditional therapy?

You’ll receive the same level of professional, confidential support as with indoor therapy. The main difference is the environment. Many people find they feel more relaxed, open, and grounded when they’re outside. Nature can support healing in unique and powerful ways.

Can I try a session before deciding?

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so we can talk about what you're looking for and see if ecotherapy feels like a good fit. From there, you’re welcome to book a one-off session before deciding whether to continue.

How long are sessions and how often do they take place?

Sessions last 50 minutes. Some people come weekly, others fortnightly—whatever works best for your pace and needs. We’ll agree on a rhythm that feels supportive.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place in carefully chosen natural spaces that are quiet, peaceful, and easy to access. I use two outdoor spaces, one in Cambridge City Centre and one in Huntingdonshire. Both have good public transport and road links. We can talk about these spaces during our phone consultation to see which one works best for you.

Still have questions?

I’d love to talk them through. Click on the button to get in touch and we can chat

over email or book you a free 20 minute consultation to chat more.

My background and qualifications

Throughout my career I have always worked with people in helping professions. I began my career as an advocate, working with young people in care, ensuring they were listened to, and their rights respected.

I then moved into working in education and supporting teenagers at risk of being excluded.

This work exposed me first hand to how poor mental health was having a huge impact on

people’s lives. Wanting to do something to help, I trained as a mindfulness teacher and

started my journey to train as an integrative counsellor.

Years down the line, I’ve trained as a child and teen mindfulness teacher, trained in MBCT(Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction).

I’ve completed my Diploma in Counselling and specialised in working with trauma. I’ve completed further training in sound therapy, a variety of trauma approaches, creative counselling and ecotherapy.

As well as counselling, I host group and 1:1 sessions offering relaxation and self-care. Hosting these events and retreats is an important part of my work. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can focus on their own wellness.

I am fully insured and have a DBS check in place. I am a member of the BACP and follow their ethical guidelines, ensuring I work in a safe and professional manner.
